As promised the two write ups of crashes at Lochindaal and Bowmore Islay. I know its not the Clyde area but someone recently said I ought to let my website cover all of Scotland.

This is moving that way!

Along the Clyde mountains and hillsides are sites where aircraft, such as The Seafire, Anson, and Spartan came to grief.

The Spartan in particular was, it is believed, an airliner operated by Scottish Airlines. Its major parts are at the Aviation Museum at East Fortune.

Stephens Contribution No1 The Superfortress.

Stephen has visited a number of sites in our area. This one is a B29 Boeing Superfortress at Succoth Glen, the nearest Town being Strachur. Argyll.

Stephens No 2 The Seafire.

This site is near Loch Winnoch Muirishiel Park, Hill of Stake, anyone have the Squadron it was from or Serial Numbers, or for that matter Squadron codes? Please let us know.

Jim has kindly offered the following further information on the Seafire. The Supermarine Seafire wreck on the Hill of Stake which features in your wrecks page, is serial number PR432 of 804 Squadron FAA which crashed on 03/02/47 whilst on a ferry flight from Donibristle to Eglinton.

Stephens No 3 The Viking.

This site is the Irish Law site about 1500ft in the Hills East of Largs. She crashed in 1948 and no one was injured. The wreck was cut up and moved about as many people were reporting the crash much later because of the a/c staying intact. Thankyou once again Stepen.

My pics of the visit to the Viking will appear shortly.Admin.
