Empire Class C Caledonia. This aircraft or should I say flying boat was built at Rochester Kent along with 42 others. 260 Short Sunderlands were built by Blackburn Aircraft at their Dumbarton factory. Now has anyone out there any images they would send us of any flying boats built by this company, and anyone know of sources of drawings of the same.Please get in touch. The promised 'Whaleback' of the RAF Search and Rescue Squadrons used in WWII This model has taken 2 years to build its hull alone taking 1000 planks of plywood 1/2'' wide x 1mm thk built double diagonal as was the original. It was first displayed to the Public at Nostell Priory in West Yorkshire on the opening day of Nostell Aviation Museum,linked with the ATC of Wakefield and South Yorkshire Aviation Society, and with the kind permission of Lord St Oswald. The Museum was opened by Lord Elworthy,GCB. DSO. MVD. DFC. AFC. Marshall of the Royal Airforce. Anyone interested, I have lines and sections of this model. Plans were available from M.A.P. The right hand image is of the glass case that housed the whole ASR exhibit including the boat. (Click on thumbnails for larger image) Images from the Scottish Painter Harley Miller The first is a painting commissioned by BAA (Bitish Airports Authority) titled 'Airside', showing at the top and in descending order, Aberdeen,Edinburgh and Glasgow Airports. The second is a painting of the well known Loganair aircraft which was operating from Glasgow. Pictures of the model of an RAF Seaplane Tender found in a shop in Wigan Lancs.
